IEC's Design Engineering Team offers PCB layout, test system development and sustaining engineering services that can help you solve your design related issues quickly.

IEC's design engineers are able to design boards using your preferred PCB or schematic software, assist with FPGA design, and perform test system development The design group includes PCB designers and design, component, manufacturing and test engineers.

IEC's design services team includes 3 engineers with a combined 65 years of experience. Their expertise includes  hardware design (PC, analog, digital, PLD), design of RF, analog and digital hardware, software development (C, assembler), experience in programming embedded microcontrollers and experience in component engineering in a military design environment.

 Capabilities and services include:

  • Electrical design
  • Schematic capture
  • PCB layout and Gerber editing
  • Software development - embedded firmware, Windows 9x, Me and 2000, C/C++, assembler
  • Component engineering
  • Product maintenance/enhancement
  • Sustaining engineering
  • Redesign for manufacturability/testability
  • PCB layout and modification
  • Product development
  • Advanced functional test system design
  • BOM/AVL development

Electrical design experience includes:

  • A two board set designed for a hospital infant warmer system
  • A multiplexer board used as part of an automated test system, which switches multiple analog and digital signal inputs to data acquisition equipment - FPGAs were developed using VHDL

Mechanical design experience includes:

  • An assembly used to verify movement of a solenoid - board includes an optoisolator to interface to the control system
  • An actuator used on a test system - pneumatic actuation provides electrical isolation and eliminates electrical noise

Software development experience includes:

  • PC software - IEC has developed numerous applications using C and Microsoft Visual C++; other languages used include VisualBASIC, LabWindows CVI and assembler
  • Embedded software - embedded applications are developed using cross assemblers or C cross compilers; targets include the Microchip PIC family, Intel 80186 and Atmel AVR series of processors

PCB layout experience:

  • IEC has been providing PCB layout services since 1995
  • We have experience in through-hole and surface mount designs
  • IEC has in-house experts in design for manufacturability and design for testability
  • Data from many schematic capture packages can be imported into our PCB tools
  • Double-sided and multi-layer capabilities

Design Recommendations:

  • Design for Manufacturability  - IEC has capability data for virtually all component types and manufacturing processes. Our expertise is manufacturing. This is most effective at the early phase of design and prototype.
  • Design for Testability- IEC has tremendous strength in Test Engineering.
  • Design for Procurement - It enables IEC to avoid component obsolescence, over specification and single sources.
